Stittsville Resident and Community Advocate, Kevin Hua Launches Candidacy for Stittsville Ward

OTTAWA - Kevin Hua, lifelong Stittsville resident and community advocate, today launched his candidacy for City Councillor for Ward 6. Hua has a long history of involvement in the community including helping to found and run the local 2SLGBTQIA+ organization, West Side Pride, and having previously run as a candidate in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections and the 2022 municipal election. In addition, Hua has previously worked in the federal public service and also recently obtained a Master of Public Policy and Administration.

Hua says he believes City Hall has fallen short in fulfilling the needs of residents in Stittsville with the pace of growth in the community. He says he’s running because Stittsville needs a strong advocate at City Council who will fight for its interests and deliver on the services and infrastructure residents need and deserve within the community.

"Stittsville is one of the fastest growing wards in Ottawa and full of potential but City Council has struggled to plan and meet our needs for reliable transit, responsible community planning, and safer roads and residents are feeling it” said Hua. “I have personally experienced and been frustrated by the challenges in our community within my daily life which is why I’m running on a vision that puts transit, growth, and road safety at the core of my campaign.”

With the launch of his campaign, Hua has introduced three policies that underpin his vision on these three issues. On transit, he is advocating for a bus station that will better connect the community and move people. On growth, he is proposing a Community Design Plan for Hazeldean Road to ensure responsible planning that delivers both housing and infrastructure. On road safety, he is calling for a Vision Zero Action Plan to more expeditiously end road fatalities and serious injuries and make Stittsville’s streets safer for all road users.

"Stittsville is growing and changing fast and that comes with new challenges for our community. I believe that the vision I have set out for Stittsville will help the community to effectively navigate this new stage of Stittsville’s growth and help it to reach its full potential,” said Hua.
