A New Face for Stittsville
Kevin Hua has been a resident of Stittsville for 23 years having grown up and raised by his family in Timbermere. He is a passionate and dedicated local political activist and community advocate who has served as the federal NDP candidate in Stittsville for the 2019 and 2021 federal elections. First running at the young age of 18, he has gone toe to toe against Pierre Poilievre twice advocating for progressive policies and ideas to improve his community.
In 2023, Kevin helped to found and run the local 2SLBTQIA+ organization West Side Pride with other local organizers holding their first festival and organizing other progamming and activities like its annual West Side Pride festival, Transgender Day of Remembrance Flag Raising, and . Additionally, Kevin has spent years volunteering to support members of our community with mental and developmental disabilities with Around the Campfire, a local organization that provides fun and supportive socialization experiences for neurodivergent youth.
Kevin holds both a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management and Masters of Public Policy and Administration from Carleton University. During his studies at Carleton, Kevin was a part of a number of extracurricular activities including as a staff writer for the Kroeger Policy Review, writing policy briefs and opinion pieces on public policy issues affecting Canada and the local community.
In his professional career, Kevin has worked in the federal public service for a total of 3 years working in various departments including Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, Service Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
As the son of Chinese immigrants, Kevin has been actively involved in the racialised and immigrant communities, helping to foster the cultural and linguistic identities of youth in those communities through volunteer work and working as an Office Secretary in the OCSB’s International and Indigenous Languages Program.
Kevin is young but he is ready to serve his community. He wants to make a difference to address the challenges we face together and improve the community and city he has called home for his entire life.
