Meet Kevin Hua
Kevin is a lifelong Stittsville resident and community advocate who has a future-forward vision for our community
Inclusivity has always been important to Kevin which is why he's worked diligently to build it in our community.
In 2023, Kevin came together with other local organizers in Stittsville to found West Side Pride with a sole goal: To provide queer representation, advocacy, and celebration locally for the people of Western Ottawa and its surrounding communities.
He has played a key role in building up West Side Pride into the successful organization it is today including organising the Community Fair at West Side Pride's annual festival where he has managed to double its size every year.
Kevin is no stranger to Ottawa's politics and policy scene and has gained substantial experience and skills within it.
He holds both a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management and a Masters of Public Policy and Administration from Carleton University. Kevin has also had multiple years of co-op experience in the the federal public service working on integrated business planning at ECCC, Métis-Crown relations at CIRNAC, and SIN data partnerships at Service Canada.
On top of his studies, Kevin has significant electoral experience, having previously run for Parliament in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections and for City Council in Ottawa's 2022 municipal election.
Never being afraid to get his hands dirty, Kevin has often helped out around the community however he can.
As the son of Chinese immigrants, Kevin has been actively involved in the racialised and immigrant communities including helping to foster the cultural and linguistic identities of youth through volunteering and then working as an Office Secretary in the OCSB's International and Indigenous Languages Program.
In addition, Kevin has helped to support members of our community with mental and developmental disabilities volunteering with Around the Campfire, a local organization that provides fun and supportive socialization experiences for youth with special needs.
